Procollagen type 1 N-terminal propeptide (P1NP) has two distinct forms in humans. Its presence aids in the diagnosis of several conditions including osteogenesis imperfecta and Ehlers-Danlos syndrome that are brought on by a lack of collagen. The gene contains six exons, spanning over more than 19 kb of DNA.
