Fuel Proof's diesel tanks put to the ultimate test in 'the coldest journey on earth'

Fuel Proof have been commissioned to design and build two customised 850 litre fuel storage tanks to support Sir Ranulph Fiennes' latest expedition The Coldest Journey, a record-breaking 2000 mile trek across Antarctica during winter. The trek, which is the first ever trans-arctic winter expedition, is raising millions of pounds for charity and also providing valuable scientific research. With difficult terrain and temperatures dropping as low as -90°C, the project presents a huge test of endurance to both the team and their equipment. Behind the six-man Ice Team on foot will be two bulldozers each hauling giant industrial sledges carrying the teams living quarters, supplies, fuel and a science lab. After setting sail from Cape Town on 6th January the tanks along with the other equipment and expedition crew arrived at Crown Bay in Eastern Antarctica on February 13th. The design of the custom built tanks is based on our popular 'Fuelcube' range, only these special build units have no cabinet to house the fill point or generator feeds. As you can see in the picture below it was requested for the tanks to be fitted with seven separate generator feeds. The tanks have been designed to be as lightweight, compact and user-friendly as possible to help the trip go smoothly. Each custom built 850 litre Fuelcube will be housed in the plant room in each caboose and will supply fuel to the generators and heaters in the cabooses during the mammoth expedition, which is scheduled to take place over six months through the Antarctic winter.
