New helipad facility installed at Glasgow Airport

11-12-2014

Leading fuel storage equipment manufacturer and supplier Fuel Proof Ltd have this month completed work on the design, build and installation of a new Jet A-1 fuel storage and dispensing facility at Glasgow Airport. The system features a 22,500 Litre storage tank with remote refuelling cabinet, and has utilised some of the company’s newly acquired design and production technology to deliver a truly state-of-the-art installation. The low profile remote refuelling cabinet is a bespoke design unveiled by Fuel Proof for the first time earlier this year, and is positioned to supply a number of helipads with underground bunded pipework supplying fuel from the 22,500 Litre storage tank. The remote dispensing cabinet contains a number of cutting-edge dispensing solutions including a remote control ‘deadman’ system which allows the user to control the pump from the helipad, as well as wireless pump and hose reel controls with variable pump speeds. The cabinet also houses the filtration and fuel recirculation system ensuring stored fuel remains in prime condition. The work was part of a project undertaken by Raynesway Construction Ltd, a division of Balfour Beatty based in Paisley, to re-locate the helipad used by Bond Aviation Services Ltd to Glasgow Airport ready for 1st April 2014. The project also included building office and workshop buildings, access and parking facilities. Fuel Proof director Roger Pilkington says the new system will be a key part of the company’s aviation fuel storage equipment range for years to come. “We were delighted to be awarded the contract of providing fuel storage equipment for this impressive project, working alongside Raynesway Construction and Bond Aviation Services who are both leaders in their respective fields. The project has given us an opportunity to really showcase what we can do, fully utilising our CAD design technology and CNC controlled production machinery. Projects like this really do drive us forward as a company, in every aspect from initial design through to installation and commissioning. The feedback we’ve had so far gives us every confidence that this system will be a big success in the aviation industry in future.”
