Furnitubes supplies new Arca litter bins to Spitalfields Market, London

02-04-2015

Old Spitalfields Market is a covered market in the inner city East End of London close to the financial district of Broadgate to the west and the busy Commercial Street to the east. There has been a market here for over 350 years but in 1991 the wholesale fruit and vegetable market moved out of the site. In the years since, Spitalfields has grown into a bustling 7-days-a-week facility with an arts and crafts market, restaurants, bars and shops all contained under the restored Victorian roofed structure. With over 25,000 visitors to the market every week the client needed litter bins that were easy-to-operate, durable and visually in keeping with the area, and most importantly also needed to allow segregated collection of general waste and content for recycling. The bin that met this brief was the Arca - the newest addition to Furnitubes' litter bin range. There are many variations of shape, size, materials, mounting and optional extras available in the range and for Spitalfields the ideal choice was a square unit, which maximised the collection capacity and allowed two units to be neatly installed side-by-side. The material combination was black steelwork with timber-faced doors and back panels, with signage plates to differentiate the general waste and recycling bins
