haa design were appointed by A+DS to investigate the opportunities that present themselves within existing school stock, and develop a ‘pattern language’ of intervention which could be applied across the board.
During the first phase of this analytical project haa reviewed three West Lothian schools identifying generic opportunities. This process involved working closely with the users – teachers, students + those responsible for the provision of teaching/learning space, and linked with A+D’s ‘Senses of Place’. With the second phase haa worked with the design team from Fife Council to test the ‘pattern language’ on a specific case study at Kilrymont Campus, Madras College in St. Andrews.
