In 2002 haa design won a competition with developer Speyroc for a speculative bio-tech building on the West of Scotland Science Park. Requiring both maximum flexibility and energy efficient plan forms, the design incorporated laboratory research facilities with flexible space planning requirements to meet the needs of opto-electronics and life science companies. Environmental design issues developed closely with the Building Research Establishment took into account both the long term energy efficiency of the building as well as the impact of the materials and construction. The project was awarded the 2004 UK Science Parks Association award for innovative design demonstrating environmental sustainability.
