Starbucks Coffee – Heathrow T5

20-05-2016

It’s not every day that we get a request to fill a sign with nearly 2000 coffee cups, but that’s exactly what happened with the Starbucks Heathrow T5 concept. John Anthony Signs worked closely with the Designer and Starbucks to find a solution to house hundreds of ceramic coffee cups into 1.2m high individual letters that were then mounted on a plinth to create a striking feature as you look across the terminal. Each letter was faced in 6mm toughened glass, which when combined with the weight of the coffee cups, made them quite a feat of engineering to ensure that they were structurally sound and robust. The base of each coffee cup had to be individually drilled, mounted on rods and locked in position, cup by cup. The letters look incredible and the client was thrilled with the end result.
