17th Edition Wiring Regulations 134.1.1 states, among other things, that manufacturers instructions must always be followed.

All switchgear manufacturers have torque settings listed as part of the instructions for their ranges. (Search Google – entering “electrical torque settings” to find online databases of the leading manufacturers).

Many manufacturers are enquiring about the use of torque drivers when dealing with warranty claims on their goods.

Warranty claims have been rejected because a torque driver wasn’t used, and so they claim that their instructions were not followed.

BS EN 6789 stipulates that every professional torque screwdriver must remain in tolerance for 5,000 applications and must be regularly checked for calibration. The tool should be checked every 5,000 clicks or once a year. A new dated calibration certificate is then produced.

Any UKAS accredited service centre can calibrate the tool and many offer a simple postal service.
