TERRY HEDDON - 50 YEARS AND COUNTING AT KONECRANES

07-01-2015

Terry Heddon, a crane service technician with leading lifting equipment manufacturer, Konecranes, is in a celebratory mood after being presented with a 50-year long service award. In recognition of his achievement in attaining such a magnificent career milestone, and as part of Konecranes’ long service award scheme, Terry was presented with a watch, framed certificate and personlised letter from Konecranes’ President and CEO, Pekka Lundmark. Based at Konecranes’ centralised Service District facility in Thornbury, South Gloucestershire, 67-year old Terry today helps support the ongoing national service contract that the company enjoys with Direct Rail Services, primarily at their sites in Bridgwater and Berkeley. Having started his career in the early 1960s having served his time as a fitter/machinist, Terry has spent almost his entire working life working with any manner of cranes and lifting equipment. And having ‘enjoyed every minute’, it remains very much business as usual, as Terry has no plans to retire. Presenting Terry with his long service award, District Manager, Mark Goringe said: “Not only is Terry a much liked and larger than life figure amongst our team here in the South West, he is widely respected by all who know him and who have had the pleasure of working with him at Konecranes. “His knowledge relating to cranes and lifting equipment, particularly of a mechanical nature, is second to none. This is matched by his extensive experience, not to mention his infectious enthusiasm in rectifying and resolving problems for customers as quickly and efficiently as possible. When they made Terry they threw the mould away,” added Mark. Echoing this sentiment, Pekka Lundmark said: “Organisations such as ours do not take lightly the dedication and commitment that people such as Terry continue to show in their daily working lives. I would therefore like to personally congratulate Terry for his outstanding and impeccable service record with Konecranes and share in celebrating something very few people experience in their lifetime.” Despite having five decades of service to his name, Terry is quick to point out that it is definitely a case of 50 years and counting. “I’ve had a fantastic career and loved every minute of it. I have worked with hundreds of great colleagues and the current team in Thornbury is no exception. On top of that I work for a company that is well respected, so why would I want to retire?” Anyone interested in joining the Konecranes team should check out www.konecranes.co.uk/career for a list of current job vacancies.
