Whether you want to create decorative garden dividers or a unique front garden fence, a gabion wall will be a great choice for both these projects. Gabion walls are strong outdoor structures that not only provide a firm and permeable base but also add a natural element to any outdoor area when filled with organic materials, such as gabion stones. When filled with stones, gabion walls are incredibly visually appealing– from having subtle variations in stone colours to the texture of different gabion rocks. These details truly make gabion walls a functional and aesthetic solution for both residential and commercial spaces. Related: Everything you need to know about gabion baskets. Step-by-step instructions. Step 1 – Level the ground. Use a garden hoe to level the ground where you want the gabion walls to be installed. Depending on the type of soil you have, you might need to replace some of the depth with compacted soil or a base layer to offer stronger support for the filled gabion cages. Step 2 – Stop weeds. Spread a weed mat or geotextile membrane over this area and tuck it down tightly. Step 3 – Assemble the baskets. Lay the gabion baskets flat and use the helicoil joiners to easily join the basket mesh panels together. When the spiral joiners have reached the end of the wire panels, pinch each end of the spiral, so these do not slip out. Step 4 – Fill with gabion stones. Fill the assembled gabion baskets with your gabion stones.
