The Four Different Types of Driveways

30-06-2015

An attractive driveway is a sign of a well-maintained home. Any homeowner looking to make the right impression needs to have a well-designed and laid driveway. There are, typically speaking, four different types of driveways that homeowners choose from. But how do you decide the right driveway for your home? Below is a list of popular driveway materials. Asphalt or Blacktop Driveways The least expensive driveway building material, asphalt is one of the more popular driveway materials. The primary drawback is that asphalt requires frequent maintenance, and to be resealed every other day. Asphalt driveways are typically gray, with a plain appearance. Brick or Cobblestone Driveways Brick or cobblestone driveways are considered to be the high-end options. Generally speaking, they are more expensive than their concrete, asphalt or paving counterparts. However, as time passes, these driveways can become uneven and as such yearly maintenance is required. Concrete or Cement Driveways The most common driveways in the homes, concrete driveways are part of the overall landscape of homes, and can also make any home appear elegant and attractive. Cement driveways are less expensive than brick driveways and don’t require much upkeep. There are three distinct concrete driveways. These are as follows: Plain concrete – this is the most basic driveway. With its plain appearance, it suits those with a limited budget but require one of durability. Exposed or Aggregate Concrete – these driveways use materials that can be likened to granite. They do require polishing for the beauty to come out. Decorative or Stamped Concrete – this concrete can cost double or triple the price of plain concrete, but is certainly worth the expenditure. Often used for home re-modelling, consumers have a choice of colours based on their particular taste. Paving Driveways Some driveways use a combination of different materials to complete the finish. Pacing stones, brick pavers and natural stones are common pavers used. They make driveways appear more attractive. The drawback is that these driveways are expensive and require high maintenance. These are the four different driveway types that consumers have the choice of installing. Choosing the right option for you is imperative, after all you’ll have to live with it for years to come. - See more at: http://www.mainlandaggregates.co.uk/blog/The-Four-Different-Types-of-Driveways/#sthash.uevyvN6j.dpuf
