Naylor Help Fight Homelessness with Building Contractors

Yorkshire based Naylor Industries PLC are helping to fight homelessness with the appointment of social enterprise building company Happy Days Building and Roofing to work on their sites in Barnsley. Naylor Industries, a fourth-generation family business, was founded in 1890 and remains one of the largest manufacturers in the UK. Recent decades have seen the company expand into new markets and in addition to 3 factories in South Yorkshire, Naylor now has plants in Fife and the West Midlands manufacturing a range of clay, plastic and concrete products. Whilst the company primarily supplies the construction industry, Naylor’s Yorkshire Flowerpots business is now the UK’s largest manufacturer of terracotta garden pots. Business turnover for the Group now exceeds £50m and the company employs some 400 people. In 2017 Naylor moved some of their operations from old sites and have contracted Halifax based Happy Days Building and Roofing to work on the premises. The works include roofing, demolition, and the construction of a new canteen and toilet blocks for the staff onsite. As a social enterprise, the work of Happy Days Building & Roofing supports their parent charity, Happy Days UK, with profits from their construction work helping to fight homelessness in the United Kingdom. The role of the company is to provide both a premier building and roofing service, but also take individuals off the streets and help put them to work. Commenting on the appointment, Peter Sherburn from Naylor commented “At the present we are working closely with Happy Days building and roofing company to modernise the factory at Cawthorne the company has performed in every way to a standard acceptable by us on the recent projects which they have under taken and delivered on time. And will be looking forward to work with them on future projects.” The work will allow Happy Days to expand and take on more full-time staff, with the recent announcement that the company is looking to hire four additional tradesmen and will be taking on two apprentices. Happy Days regularly look to hire and train those who have struggled in the past with issues such as homelessness.
