Used Dutch Oak grade 1 railway sleepers
These reclaimed Dutch railway sleepers are usually between 30 - 60 years old, depending on which section of railway they came from in Holland. The oak is normally square edged on one face, with occasionally some rounded edges (scallops) on the opposite face, where the oak has been cut from the outside of the tree. The railway sleeper ends may also have fixed into it an old metal plate or 'S' shape or steel band that was fastened 50 years ago to help limit cracking in the railway sleepers when they had been newly cut (often unsuccessfully!). Having spent decades on a railway track, they may also feature the rustic signs of cracks, loose bits, and 'character' with occasional areas of crumbly softness or decay.Visit the Railwaysleepers.com website for more information on Used Dutch Oak grade 1 railway sleepers
