Launching soon… Domestic Renewable Heat Incentive (RHI)

25-03-2014

In July 2013 the Government announced that the launch of the Domestic Renewable Heat Incentive (RHI) was expected to be Spring 2014, subject to State Aid clearance and Parliamentary Approval. What is RHI? The RHI is the world’s first long-term financial support scheme for renewable heat. This is one of the Government’s key efforts to meet greenhouse gas emissions reduction targets, as well as encouraging the up take of renewable heating technology. Why are we excited about the launch? Launching soon, the RHI will provide financial support to the domestic sector for renewable heat, including Air Source Heat Pumps and Solar Thermal technologies. The support for Air Source Heat Pumps will be paid at a set rate per unit of renewable heat produced (kilowatt hour or kWh) for a period of seven years to the owner of the heating system. The agreed tariff is: • 7.3p/kWh for Air source Heat Pumps • 19.2p/kWh for Solar Thermal. Also applicants installing Heat Pumps will receive an extra £230 if they install heat metering and monitoring service packages. Eligibility Householders of a single domestic property in Great Britain, heated or not by mains gas, can apply for RHI if: • A Green Deal Assessment has been carried out • The property has the correct insulation as recommended by the GDA (Green House Assessment) • MCS certified installer and MCS certified products are used NOTE: All payments will go to the owner of the heating system. The scheme is due to open from Spring 2014 subject to State Aid clearance and Parliamentary Approval.
