Quex Park Estate Country House & Museum

09-03-2014

Quex Park and Museum is a historical house and major tourist attraction near Birchington in Kent, Quex House was built in the early 1800’s. We were contacted by the estate manager because they had an aging galvanised steel cold water tank that was in need of considerable restoration and repair. No one was quiet sure how old the tank was. The tank is in a small attic area in one of the roof voids above Quex House. There were also staff living quarters and offices that also used water from this tank. It was important that the work be completed as quickly as possible. Due to the limited attic space and the condition of the tank manual preparation was the only option, during this process the heavily scaled, corroded and rusted tank revealed significant areas of damage on the walls. Galvanised steel water tank corrosion and rust scale Water tank corrosion and rust scale Cold water tank heavy corrosion and rust scale During the preparatory works substantial holes and steel loss around the inlet ball valve were discovered in two of the tank walls. The largest hole being approximately 650mm x 50mm and other holes being around 200mm x 50mm each. These images show a few of the holes that we found in the wall of this water tank.
