Rail Speed Record Commemorative Plinth

27-11-2013

Amber Precast were commissioned to produce a commemorative plinth to celebrate the 10th anniversary of the UK Rail Speed Record. The plinth was produced from wet cast and polished to create an impressive result. Ten years ago, Eurostar, the high-speed passenger rail service linking the UK with mainland Europe, set the UK rail speed record at 208mph on High Speed 1 (HS1), near the Medway Viaduct in Kent at 11.35am on the 30 July 2003. Ten school children from across Kent who were all born in 2003 were on hand at exactly 11.35am to help celebrate the anniversary of the record. A special commemorative plaque was unveiled near a popular walking route close to the most spectacular part of the high-speed line, the Medway Viaduct. This collaborative project has seen Eurostar, HS1 and Network Rail (High Speed) sharing the design and installation of the plaque to commemorate the UK Rail Speed Record. The project was two years in the planning and Network Rail (High Speed) Outside Parties Team was instrumental in bringing the idea to life. To view the full article please click on the link below.
