Carrying Out Your Own Maintenance

21-08-2014

Your blinds guarantee only covers defects, so you still have to look after your blinds. However our Complete Service Plan is available if you want us to carry out regular servicing of your remote control roof blinds, but you can care for them yourself. We provide detailed information and video guides on how to do this in our My Blinds section of the website, which you can log into after purchase for all kind of after sales care. We even offer a single visit option where we carry out the first service and show you exactly how to do it, so you can look after them yourself from that point onwards. Conservatories get dirtier than any other room in your home because they are open to the outside much more than any other room, which means that your blinds will get dusty, fluffy and may even develop a layer of road film (normally only seen on the front of your home). Plus, if your conservatory is close to your kitchen, there will be a great deal of airborne fat and grease. The main causes of operational problems with motorised blinds are due to lack of use and allowing them to get dirty, so the key thing is to operate your blinds regularly (at least once a week) and make sure that they are kept clean by regular dusting. If you haven’t operated or cleaned your blinds regularly, you will need to thoroughly clean the ‘support wires’ and drive cords to avoid problems with operation. Unclip the top of the blinds and shake any debris out Clean any fluff or dirt from the drive cords using a clean damp cloth Carefully apply silicone to the micro-cables Re-clip the blinds back in position and ensure that they are correctly tensioned Replace the remote control batteries Check the operation and control functions We can provide you with silicone for you to wipe the roof blind micro-cables, but do NOT apply silicone to the two drive cords (or any micro-cables that touch the drive cords). DO NOT: Wipe the drive cords with anything other than a clean damp cloth. Wash your blinds, or allow them to get wet, as this will damage the electrical components. Remove the cover of the control box or allow it to get wet, as there is a risk of electrical shock. Press the recessed button on the back of the handset as this will delete all of the settings. Allow fluff or dust to build up on the blinds as this will hinder operation. Try to stop or operate remote control blinds manually. Forget to keep the control box plugged in to a socket (and switched on). Of course the above is just a brief overview to what can be required, but is a good summary of what is involved, so it is a practical proposition if you want to look after your blinds without the added expense of our Complete Service Plan.
