Sewage tank fall company fined

03-09-2014

A Suffolk construction firm has been fined £13,000 after a worker fell five metres from the roof of a sewage tank. David Baker, of Wombwell, Yorkshire, suffered multiple injuries in the accident in 2004 at a Permastore Ltd site in Cowley Road in Cambridge. The Health and Safety Executive (HSE) revealed that the work was unsafe and the equipment provided was unsuitable. At Ely magistrates the company - based in Eye, Suffolk - admitted breaching health and safety laws. Speaking after the case, HSE inspector Trevor Tollervey stressed the importance for construction companies to properly plan work at height. He said: "Falls from height are biggest single cause of injury on construction sites."
