Banksy preserved with the help of Stainless Steel

23-04-2021

Stainless steel finds its way into many pieces of art, often in large impactful sculptures. However a Carlisle based firm has utilised the material instead, to help preserve a recent mural created by the mysterious artist Banksy in the wake of climate protests in London. The images adorns a wall in Marble Arch and depicts a young girl holding an Extinction Rebellion logo, next to the words: “From this moment despair ends and tactics begin.” Created in April 2019 following the London demonstrations by Extinction Rebellion, the artwork had begun to fall into disrepair, so Westminster City Council commissioned the firm to clean the work up and protect it with a large polycarbonate panel mounted in a stainless steel frame. Climate change is a hot topic currently, and we are gradually seeing a public shift against high carbon products. Luckily DSM’s products are made from over 60% recycled materials, have an extended and long life due to their high quality construction, and are 100% recyclable at the end of that extended life time. For anyone concerned about their carbon footprint, DSM’s stainless steel products provide one of the most environmentally friendly options available! Obviously if Banksy were to grace our premises with one of his multimillion pound murals we wouldn’t complain!! If he did, we’d happily knock out a frame to protect it no problem. After all we’re experts at designing, manufacturing and installing stainless steel frames for use in catering and domestic kitchens, laboratories, educational establishments, veterinary clinics and healthcare environments.
