Olympics & Wenlock

Olympics The Olympics have come and gone but the children in Rishton had a rare treat. The opening of the refurbished full size artificial hockey/football pitch at Norden High School had a surprise visitor. Wenlock turned up and joined in on the Olympic themed event. The local primary school children played several Olympic Games including football Hockey tennis and track and field. The day was a resounding success with the mayor opening the event with a penalty shoot out, with Wenlock as the stand in Goal Keeper. The Mayor scored by the way. This is partnership with Norden High School Envirolawn and Rishton Allweather enabling the High school the benefits of a superb full size artificial sports pitch for School use and the local community for evening use. Wenlock Wenlock's name is inspired by Much Wenlock in Shropshire, England, where the Wenlock Olympian Society held its first Olympian Games in 1850, regarded as an inspiration for the modern Olympic games. He has five friendship bracelets on his wrist. Each bracelet takes the colour of an Olympic ring. The three points on his head represent the three places on the podium. The pattern on his body with the logo of the games symbolises the whole world coming to London in 2012. The shape on the front of his head represents the shape of the Olympic stadium roof
