Environmental policy
30-08-2014
Environmental policy is a key part of the H&E Smith business strategy. Not only are we driven to comply with UK and EU legislation, but we strive to continually improve environmental performance in all aspects of our operation. We recognise that environmental responsibilities exist beyond legal and regulatory requirements and encourage all our stakeholders to follow suit.
We aim to reduce as much as possible:
Energy usage
Waste generation
Air and water emissions
Other direct/indirect environmental impacts
We realise that it is essential for this commitment to come from every member of the organisation; environmental implications should factor in everything, from Director decisions to everyday staff behaviour. We're committed to educating and encouraging all staff to adopt optimal environmental practices, and aim to reduce the health/environmental hazards anyone faces when in the vicinity of our operations.
As a manufacturer and distributor, we need to analyze our operations and identify necessary improvements on a regular basis. We reduce travel as much as possible, making only vital trips, and demand our distribution service and suppliers are as green as possible too.
In terms of our manufacturing activities, efficiency is paramount. We recycle our waste tiles and materials as far as we can. Lighting and electrical equipment is switched off when not in use and heating is adjusted with energy saving in mind. Environmental procurement is undertaken when considering new machinery and electrical purchases. We promote water saving and water cleanliness, and paper/cardboard saving and recycling is championed across both the factory and offices.
We have implemented a variety of policies within the workplace to meet our aims, and will assess our performance periodically, improving our methods where required.Visit the H and E Smith Ltd website for more information on Environmental policy
