Josh's Natural Skills

Josh Phillips of Heworth, Newcastle upon Tyne, an apprentice with Hart Door Systems of Westerhope, completes his first self-diagnostic control panel for one of Hart’s recent orders. Nick Hart, technical director at Hart’s, says he is delighted with Josh’s progress and his enthusiasm for this particular project. “Technology is a vital area of operating sophisticated door systems as we have a policy of continual product improvement through design, prototyping and testing,” says Nick. “Josh very clearly has had guidance on this project but that said he has used his natural skills to successfully deliver on a technologically challenging task,” adds Nick. “Developing solutions for clients within the ISO 9001:2008 quality programme means high-end electrical engineering skills which at just 19 Josh has in abundance.” Nick Hart adds: “ This is Josh’s first control panel which he is making under his own steam and in full control of build and subsequent testing. It is being built for our latest product, Terror Screen, a high security roller door for a power station. This is built to a security standard LPS1175 to level SR4 designed to resist attack by determined terrorist or burglar. We released this new product in spring and a number orders in manufacture for high security and high risk areas.” The panel controls the door open and close cycle along with various safety sensors to prevent the door accidental hitting a person. This is achieved by utilising photo-cells and pressure sensitive edges. There is also a controlled locking system for the door with its status indicated on a digital display on the panel. Control panels are designed and built by Hart for all kinds of specialist installations. Josh came to Hart through the Rolls-Royce apprentices programme and has been with the company for over two years as he completes an electrical apprenticeship.
