New Holophane LED Lighting System is a smash hit at new Tunbridge Wells Tennis Centre

16-07-2014

Holophane’s award-winning Haloprism high bay luminaires and HOLOS2 controls system have been combined to create a state-of-the-art LED lighting system for the indoor tennis courts at the Tunbridge Wells Sports Centre. This pioneering application is a first and sets a new benchmark in user and eco-friendly excellence for sports centres. The new lighting and controls system delivers superb visual comfort and playing conditions by utilizing the award winning Haloprism LED high bay which delivers a powerful 40,000 lumens. The new lighting scheme completely eliminates the previous dark spots associate with the old lighting and performs well even with uneven mounting heights. Precise lighting control is a key feature of the Haloprism luminaire which incorporates Holophane’s PrismaLED refractor technology to reduce glare and distribute the light efficiently. The intelligent HOLOS2 control system from Holophane also ensures lighting is dimmed on unused courts by monitoring court usage via long range presence detectors. Three preset lighting levels for maintenance, recreation and competition are easily achieved by the control system to reduce running costs. Each pre-set lighting level can easily be selected using a simple switch. Running costs are further reduced due to the excellent longevity of the luminaires (100,000 hours) which also make low maintenance a key feature of the installation. Add to this the huge 57% energy savings achieved with this system – an estimated reduction in carbon emissions of 27 tonnes per year- and it’s definitely a win-win situation! The project, funded by Tunbridge Wells Borough Council and Fusion Lifestyle, has already received excellent feedback from players and expectations are high for future budding tennis stars. As Dr. Ronen Basu, Mayor of Tunbridge Wells, said at the opening ceremony “Perhaps all this new technology will inspire the players who use the courts, and who knows, we might even have a future Wimbledon champion who begins their tennis career here under these new lights.” Further praise came from Steve Jarrett, Director of Jarrett Tennis School which is based at the centre, who believes the Centre is now one of the best facilities in the country.
