Residential Development in the Forest of Deane
Sound Planning were asked to pick up where another consultant left off on a complex site adjacent to a partially abandoned maritime site, where the Local Authority objected to the planning application on the basis of protected noise generation coming from the adjacent site.
Through liaison with the Local Authority’s planning and environmental health officers, we were able to agree an assessment methodology and appropriate criteria factoring in the possibility of resumption of use of the adjacent site.
After undertaking a noise survey, and working through the assessment, we were able to demonstrate that future residents of the site would be protected in line with the requirements of both Local and National Planning Policy, including consideration of the ‘agent of change’ principle covering the resumption of use of the adjacent site.
After our input on the project including advice on an appropriate noise mitigation strategy the Local Authority withdrew their objection to the development based on noise.
