Venables Oak Opens New Chapter in Family Timber Business - 2010

A well known name in the supply of timber and top quality joinery has created another milestone in its 150 year history with the launch of Venables Oak, the new trading name of Venables Brothers Limited. This also marks the company’s recent acquisition of Henry Venables Limited. Five generations of Venables have now been associated with oak and other British and European hardwoods, through the sourcing and supply of bulk timber, joinery, timber framing, interiors, furnishings and garden structures. Founded by the great great grandfather of the present managing director, Paul Venables, Henry Venables Limited of Stafford was particularly noted for its involvement in the restoration of buildings such as York Minster and Windsor Castle. With his brother, Chuck, Paul then founded Venables Brothers Limited in 1999, based at Chipnall Sawmills near Market Drayton and built a second very successful specialist timber sourcing and joinery business supplying consumers, house builders and the timber trade alike. Now Venables Brothers Limited has bought the name and assets of Henry Venables Limited, following its period of administration in 2009, and launched a new name, Venables Oak, bringing the family business back under one roof. Commenting on the launch of Venables Oak, Chuck Venables said, “This is a great day in the family’s history and I’d like to think it is good news for the area and for the industry as a whole. “My brother, Paul and myself have literally spent our whole lives working with oak. As youngsters, our weekends and holidays were at the family sawmill watching how the sawyers and the graders went about their work, feeling the textures of cut and seasoned wood, and learning its qualities and uses. In bringing everything back together in the family, we feel things have come full circle and Venables Oak is the result of years of experience and enthusiasm.
