New Green Roof on Alder Hey Children's Hospital

12-11-2014

ABG have secured a major green roof installation on the £237m children’s hospital development at Alder Hey, Liverpool. The roof is a complex architectural element which provides seamless link between the new building and the surrounding park through a series of sloping roofs coming right down to ground level. These sloping facets provide a complex challenge when it came to constructing the green roofs, in particular retaining the growing media on such a steep slope. ABG and our in-house design team worked with Prater Roofing, main contractor Laing O’Rourke and architect BDP to secure the green roof sub contract with an innovative solution utilising Erosaweb geocell to retain the growing media on the steep faces, drainage is provided through our Roofdrain composite and the vegetation installed as pre-grown wildflower blankets allowing virtually instant vegetation cover across the roof scape.
