Aquarian Cladding Systems is delighted to have secured an order to supply the Gebrik brick slip cladding system for use on the sloping roof of student accommodation provider UNITE’s 951 bedroom student tower in Stratford, at the Olympic Park in east London. The 90m high, 28 storey tower is being constructed by developers Westfield and will provide student accommodation to nearly 1,000 students in London and includes a total development area of 250,000 square feet, including communal space, a courtyard and 480no bicycle spaces. Aquarian Cladding worked closely with national specialist roofing and cladding contractor Metclad over many months to provide a robust off-site manufactured solution to satisfy both the developer and client. Metclad Managing Director Marvin Village said “Our experienced design team are really being tested on this project and I am delighted that we will be continuing to develop our relationship with Westfield on this demanding project. As a result of the extreme location, Westfield have been very robust in their assessment of the solution and we were required to look at other brick cladding systems. However they were unable to provide the same level of test data as we have supplied for Gebrik and our supporting substrate.” Metclad will be applying Gebrik to a roof cassette system off-site before hoisting the unitised solution into position in November, in time for the removal of roof-based cranes in December. Aquarian Cladding Director Paul Richards said “Metclad have many years of roofing and cladding experience and have a very small window to complete the work. We have worked together on numerous other projects and trust their knowledge and judgement to assemble Gebrik to everyone’s satisfaction. That said, we will continue to provide design and installation support to ensure they complete on schedule as this will be a wonderful showcase for us to demonstrate the integrity of the Gebrik system. I am sure this project will attract more opportunities for our two companies from other designers and developers working on brick-clad, high-rise buildings”
