Effective Uses of Metal Containers

07-03-2015

The most commonly used type of shipping container is easily the metal container. Also known as an ISO container or an intermodal container, it is generally made of steel and standardised with the ISO 6346 mark, which indicates the size. Metal containers are commonly 8 feet, six inches high and vary in length. The smallest would be the 10-foot shipping container. If you need something bigger, there are 20ft, 30t, 40ft, and 45ft metal containers available. Containers that are in great shape are water and wind tight, so the goods that are stored inside can remain in good condition. Metal containers are sturdy, secure, and durable to minimise incidents of theft and break-ins. A good metal container must have high-end locks. Some of the best metal containers use a straight shackle padlock or a CISA 28550 ‘Lim’ Series padlock that is made of steel and has five pins. Intermodal containers are suitable for international trade, especially when transporting goods across long distances. A 20ft metal container is small enough to transfer from one mode of transport to another. It can be stacked easily on top of other containers, especially similar-sized ones. Metal containers that are used for shipping are CSC-plated. Metal containers are not just used for shipping. In fact, they are versatile enough to be used as storage solutions. Whether you are buying (or renting) a metal container for storage or shipping, make sure that it is in excellent condition. There must be no cracks or holes in the walls and roof, and the doors must open and close properly. If it the container has been used before, it must be free of adhesive labels from cargo that was previously loaded into it. You should also check if the metal container is clean, not smelly, and free of protrusions and nails that could damage your goods.
