What to Look While Buying Refrigerated Containers

07-03-2015

A refrigerated container (also known as a reefer) is an intermodal or shipping container that is used in freight transport. It has refrigeration properties to preserve and protect temperature-sensitive goods. With refrigerated containers, shipping fresh produce, meats, medicines, and other temperature-sensitive products is easier. The size, age, and condition of the container are among the most important factors to consider when buying refrigerated containers. Apart from that, here are other things to check: 1. Look at the refrigeration system. Be sure to check the type of internal refrigeration system. These internal refrigeration systems rely on external power from the truck, ship, or train that will carry the container. When transported via a trailer truck, the refrigerated container may be powered by diesel-powered generators attached to them. Will the containers be kept in an area that lacks ventilation, such as below deck? If so you might need a refrigerated container with a water cooling system, which is great for removing heat where ventilation is not available. 2. Ensure that the container is designed for shipping. A refrigerated container must be cargo-worthy, especially if you are shipping to long distances. A shipping container must be CSC-plated if you are shipping internationally. All these factors are important to consider to ensure that the quality of the container and the goods that will be shipped are preserved and kept in good condition, even when they reach their destination. 3. Check its resistance to the elements. Make sure that the refrigerated container is completely sealed, with no cold air leaking or leaving from inside. Your goods must be protected from outside elements, too, so make sure that the container is resistant to wind and water. It is best to buy new refrigerated containers if you want complete assurance. However, if you buy from a reputable dealer, you can get high-quality used refrigerated containers, too.
