DORMA TRANSOM CLOSER HELPS AWARD WINNING SAFEHINGE ‘SYMPHONY’ DOOR SAFETY SYSTEM

Safehinge has won Product Innovation of the Year at the Design in Mental Health Awards with their no-compromise door safety system – Symphony. The Symphony door system, designed and patented by Safehinge especially for the Mental Health sector utilises DORMA’s RTS87 transom concealed door closer to create a system that is anti-ligature, anti-barricade and fire safe - a first for the mental health market. Safehinge teamed up with DORMA, the trusted partner for premium access solutions and services to develop this tailor-made door system which integrates the DORMA RTS87 Transom concealed closer, a robust pivot hinge, and removable door stop. The DORMA RTS87 closer brings controlled movement to the Symphony door system, increasing safety levels for both service users and staff. The transom closer is also pre-installed into the frame head of the Symphony doorset to make installation quick and convenient, and minimising disruption during upgrades during upgrades for live wards. For a multi-point hold-open door solution, Sysmphony also utilises DOMRA’s reliable RTS80EMB electro-magnetic hold-open transom closer. The RTS80 EMB is CE Marked to BS EN1155 and Certifire Approved for use on 1 hour fire doors. The DORMA RTS87 is an adjustable powered EN1-4 Transom Closer suitable for use in Aluminium or Steel Profiles allowing doors to meet the required opening forces of Approved Document M and BS8300. The Safehinge Symphony development team selected the DORMA RTS 87 for its high efficiency and low opening forces. The DORMA RTS87 also comes with a mechanical backcheck facility and is CE Marked to BS EN1154. A third party torque curve is also available to demonstrate the low opening forces and ability to enable doors to meet the opening forces within ADM and BS8300.
