A fingerprint is made up ridges and furrows on the surface of the finger and it is these textures that determine the uniqueness of the fingerprint. Once your fingerprint is registered on the scanner, the image of this patterns is turned into a code using a mathematical algorithm which then becomes a digital form of you. This information is kept on a database for future comparison. Once the computer has found the connections between your fingerprints it can grant you authentication and access to get through secured doors.
