BIRMINGHAM GATEWAY PROJECT (RE-DEVELOPEMENT OF BIRMINGHAM NEW STREET STATION)

02-02-2014

The £860m re-development of Birmingham New Street Station is one of the biggest construction projects within Europe. Time was limited when we received a call from the Birmingham Gateway Team to locate steel reinforcement on the roof of the existing station. As we were local to the project we had the ability to immobilise within 24 hours enabling the site team to continue their programme of works on time. By using the PS1000X-scan, a grid 600mm x 600mm was placed on the floor and reference points were marked on the concrete with the aid of the grid and the area then scanned. Then the scan is transferred on to the PSA100 monitor at the location of the scan where we could analyse the data straight away and mark up rebar within the roof slab. All locations which were identified by the client were scanned, marked up and completed in 1 day.
