ACCESS CONTROL WITH ELECTRONIC LOCKS FOR WPD, CAMBORNE

24-09-2014

We were recently contracted by Western Power Distribution to supply and fit electronic locks to their brand new building in Pool, Camborne. The brief was they had to be suitable to work with a new building control system. The system would not only give access control but also all manner of additional features from the heating system, telephones and overall security and integrate with the new CCTV system being installed and linked to the main control and security headquarters. The doors and frames they were to be fitted into were metal and would have normally been specified and fitted by the manufacture at source, but for one reason or another this had not happened and we were asked to fit them on site. We chose locks that were both robust and secure. The lock was fitted into frame due to the configuration of the door / frame and when operated by card swipe from the outside and a push to release on the inside, would retract a heavy duty bolt back into the lock case and allow for controlled access or exit. When the door closed again, after a delay of 2 seconds, the bolt would fly back into the door to hold it shut. With a holding force of 1000kg, this was more than enough to satisfy the requirements requested. The hardest bit was to cut out the holes for the locks as getting a nice straight fit with just using a hand held jigsaw was not the easiest but we achieved it with very good results. Once the holes for the locks were cut, we had to drill a small hole to allow the electric wires through and then this was sealed with rubber grommet’s. The keeps were cut into the frame in a similar manner to the locks and out of the whole process was probably the most difficult to undertake. We had to install a total of 6 locks and the whole job took 1 ½ days to complete.
