Mascalls School - Paddock Wood - Kent

A new 'Art Exhibition Centre' has recently opened to the public within the Mascall's School Grounds. The new Art Centre is built on the site of the old school music room which was demolished to make way for this purpose built accommodation for an ever increasing array of art exhibitions. Many of the Art Exhibitions require that the room is conditioned to provide a constant minimum temperature of 20 oC and a Humidity level of approx 50% RH. To meet these general demands Chillmech Limited installed a 'Trane' WSH 060 Rooftop Package 'Heat Pump' complete with all necessary insulated ductwork, internal air grilles and fresh air intake. Click photos to enlarge An internally mounted electronic temperature / time controller is responsible for maintaining a steady room temperature 24/7 and the adjustable 'Fresh Air' intake helps to maintain a fairly steady humidity level. The new Package system is capable of approx 20 Kw of summer cooling to the Building via four ceiling mounted diffuser grilles. Heating for the Winter period is provided via ' Reverse Cycle' Heat Pump operation and this enables up to 21 Kw of heat to be introduced. Obviously the new system needed to be as quiet as possible and noise was reduced to a minimum by using larger than necessary supply air ductwork and air supply grilles. The return air is recovered from low level within the exhibition Centre and returned back to the roof package unit by using internal bulkheads and void spaces. The system works very peacefully. Local media attention pulled in more than 3,500 visitors during the first three exhibitions including many educational visits from across the region. The gallery visitor's book is now brimming with compliments describing Mascalls Gallery as "Paddock Wood's little gem", "full of visual wonders" and curating exhibitions of "stunning work".
